Thorough training and instruction should be done for anyone who needs to operate any types of boom lift EWPs.
Boom type elevating work platforms over 11m legally require a High Risk Work Licence to operate.
Other types of EWP’s such as Scissor Lift training, Vertical lift training and Boom lift under 11m ticket can meet WHS Regulation 2011 requirements by completion of Yellow Card Training in Sydney, or other locations.
EWP training in Wetherill Park or other locations should be conducted by a Registered Training Organisation (RTO) and/or EWPA Yellow Card provider. The RTO should also be accredited by Workcover NSW and approved by ASQA for delivery of Units of Competency.
Training organisations should be flexible enough to offer you training courses whenever and wherever you need it. This means they can work within your schedule to ensure that you don’t interrupt projects because of a training session.
Many EWP training companies offer scheduled public courses at their own training facility and also training at your site if you have your own EWP equipment and a group of people to be trained.
Choose a reputable accredited training provider that can offer you training which best suits your EWP training needs and one which is cost-effective.

There are precautions to take to ensure the safety of everyone involved with plant like Boom Lifts or EWP’s (Elevating Work Platforms).
These are commonly used in industries like construction and building maintenance, when work needs to be done safely at height.
Having a checklist or logbook to perform some routine checks before using the EWPis mandatory to be sure there are no problems with the boom lift.

Regular maintenance is also necessary to guarantee good working condition. Servicing should be carried out at least every 3 months or 90 days, or as any problems are identified.
The operators manual will guide you in the functions and controls of the EWP, so take some time to read it if you are not familiar with the boom lift you are planning on using in Wetherill Park, Sydney or any other location.

You should also not exceed the Safe Working Load of the EWP – most boom lifts are restricted to operators and a maximum basket load of 230kg, including the weight of any tools and equipment you need to do the job.
It is also vital for operators to be aware of their surroundingsand any hazards when operating the EWP. Be on the lookout for overhead electric wires, unstable or sloping ground, high wind, other plant or traffic, and movement of people near your working area.
Proximity to buildings, structures and services should also be closely monitored.
Safety harnesses must be worn and anchored to platform at all times.
