YELLOW CARD TRAINING
SCISSOR & BOOM LIFT YELLOW CARD TRAINING SYDNEY
What is a Yellow Card?
In NSW and all other states, there is no High Risk Work Licence (HRWL) requirement to operate Scissor Lifts, Vertical Lifts or Boom Lifts under 11m including Trailer or Truck Mounted types of Elevating Work Platforms (EWPs), however, a Yellow Card provides evidence that structured training and assessment of an operators’ competency has been provided on the particular type of EWP they were trained on.
This is one way to meet duty of care obligations under the WHS Act and Regulation (2011), which state a PCBU must provide information, training, instruction or supervision that is necessary to protect all persons from risks to their health and safety arising from work carried out as part of the conduct of the business or undertaking.
How long is the course?
This Yellow Card course runs for approximately 6 hours, just depending on how many people are in the course, whether they have any experience operating EWPs, and how many types of EWPs (such as boom lifts under 1m and/or scissor lifts) are being used during the training session.
How much is the course?
$330 per person gst-free to join a scheduled public course at our site in Wetherill Park
$330 per person gst-free for a group of minimum 6 people to schedule a private course at your site*
* For courses conducted at your site, you MUST provide adequate EWP equipment (scissor and/or boom lift), training room and minimum number of people (or pay the min fee for less than 6 participants).
Who should do this course?
EWP’s are used in many industries for many type of jobs. Yellow Card training is designed for people who operate Scissor Lifts, Vertical Lifts or Manlifts, Cherry Pickers, Trailer and Truck Mounted or Boom type Lifts under 11m. This course is NOT suited to persons requiring Yellow Card Traffic Controller training.

Cobra Training & Licensing Services has a fully equipped training venue in Wetherill Park, Sydney with a Scissor Lift and Boom Lift, so you can get a yellow card for both types of EWP or just the one class if that is all you need. The price is the same whether you do 1 type of EWP or 2. We run regular courses at our site.
We can also deliver this training AT YOUR SITE if you have your own EWP equipment and a group of at least 6 people for training. We do not charge a call out fee for locations with Sydney Metro area. We are flexible to deliver a course at any time, inside or outside normal business hours, please contact us for a quote.
What is included in the course?
This course includes theory (classroom stuff) and of course you will also get practical experience operating the EWP equipment as well. During training we teach you:
• how to use EWPs safely
• what the risks and dangers are of operating EWPs
• how to do pre start inspections and why they are important
• how to properly fit and wear safety harnesses
• what to do in an emergency situation and where to get more info if needed
What do I get when I finish the course?
When you have successfully finished the course, you will receive a photo style Yellow Card issued by the EWPA (Elevating Work Platform Association). The photo card is valid for 5 years from the date of issue and you will need to renew it before the expiry date.
What happens if I do not pass the course?
You must be able to speak and understand English to be able to attend this course. In the rare event you do not pass the first time, you are more than welcome to join our next available scheduled course in Wetherill Park to try again at no further charge.
When will I get my Yellow Card?
Once you have successfully finished your training, and you have paid your training fee in full, all relevant details will be sent to the EWPA and they will process, print and post your Yellow Card directly to you. Allow up to 4 weeks to receive your card. Cobra Training & Licensing Services can issue you with a temporary certificate when you complete your course so you can get onto site and start operating Yellow Card EWP equipment straight away.
Can I operate an Over 11m Boom Lift with a Yellow Card?
NO. Boom lifts which extend over 11m require a High Risk Work Licence (HRW) to operate them. Please see our info on OVER 11M BOOM LIFTS.
What other courses are recommended?
People who attend a Yellow Card course often require the over 11m boom lift HRW licence as well, so we have a discounted course combo for both the WP HRW Licence and Yellow Card courses. Also Work Safely at Heights is separate 1-day course which can be added as a discounted combo. Ask us for more info.
